Cockpit Support
Cockpit shows your Mac’s CPU, memory, storage, network, and battery in the menu bar and dashboard. Open Cockpit from Applications, then click its menu bar item to get started.
Add hardware readings
The optional, read-only Sensor Companion requires macOS 27 or later and Apple silicon. Installation uses Apple Installer; readings run as your signed-in user without administrator access. Available readings depend on your Mac and connected accessories. The companion adds temperatures, fan speeds, power, GPU activity, CPU frequency, storage health, accessory battery levels, and Top Processes for SoC, Memory, Storage, and Battery.
Download Cockpit Sensor Companion
- Open the downloaded installer and follow the macOS installation prompts. It installs and enables the background service; there is no separate app to open or place in Applications.
- If macOS asks for approval, open System Settings → General. In Login Items or Login Items & Extensions, allow Cockpit Sensor Companion to run in the background.
- Return to Settings → Sensors in Cockpit to check the connection. Local beta, TestFlight, and production builds share the same service.
Updates and background access
In Cockpit’s Sensors settings, choose Check for Updates. If an update is available, choose Install Update and finish in Apple Installer. The companion checks the download, developer signature, and notarization before opening it. Companion versions are independent of Cockpit versions; existing readings keep their compatible protocol.
Choose Manage Background Access in Cockpit to disable the service in System Settings. Cockpit’s core monitoring continues without it. The service is installed at /Library/Application Support/Cockpit/Cockpit Sensor Companion.app.
